It's been a huge boost for me. I saved about $70 a month by refinancing…that's huge right now, especially because I have debt I'm trying to pay down.

That's great your daughter could renegotiate…a lot of people wait too long after graduating to make those kind of deals.

Consolidating your student loan can be a god send in this economy. Anything that you can do to save some money is well worth it. My daughter recently graduated and was able to negotiate a lower monthly payment with her bank since she has not been able to find a job as of yet.

That's a good idea. When I wrote this, it didn't seem like there was much chance that it would drop even further.

Obviously things haven't really gone as anyone expected with the economy.

Only problem with this is that the student loan rate is based on the t-bills but only resets every july, so the rate is the same it was last july and will remain until july 2009. I am sitting on my current rates and will choose to consolidate either in june if it looks better, or july depending on what way it is likely to go.
