Seven Links a Savin’

With the holidays rapidly approaching, you may be trying to save some money while still showing thoughtfulness.  I’m going to share a few of my ideas, and then give you a list of 7 great articles for holiday savings.

  • If you have a large group of siblings (or friends), suggest doing a gift exchange where everyone is randomly assigned one person, and set a $25 limit.  It forces you to be resourceful.
  • Consider chipping in with other siblings when buying gifts for parents.
  • Instead of presents, try exchanging donations to charity with someone.  My wife and I are going to make a contribution to the Humane Society instead of buying each other gifts.
  • Give re-gifting a shot.  I’m going to give my nephew a video game I bought about a month ago and still costs around $40 used.  Not a bad gift, even if it’s not new.  He’ll enjoy it just as much.
  • Try to remember the reason for the season

Those are just a few of the things I’m doing this year, but other people have put together some great tips for saving money this holiday season.

  1. The Greenest Dollar has advice on Regifting for Christmas
  2. Bible Money Matter has a list of 50 Frugal Gifts You Can Give This Christmas
  3. Mighty Bargain Hunter offers tips on how to Give Gifts That Deliver Good Value
  4. Finance and Fat writes about Simple Steps for a Cash Only Christmas
  5. In WiseBread’s Best Deals for Wednesday 12/17/08, they give 11 things you can buy or use that will save you a lot on gifts or nescessities this holiday season.  They are very specific, and offer links for everything.

I hope my tips and links help you save money, but more importantly, I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season.  Feel free to reply with any of your ideas.
