Money Hacks Carnival – Presidential Edition!

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 0:03 - By The David

Welcome to the 48th edition of the Money Hacks Carnival!  In honor of the inauguration, it is Presidential-themed.  But it’s not about politics - neither red nor blue.  The only color that matters here is green.

Here are 71 links to help you hack your finances.  They are broken down into twelve categories, and each starts with a Presidential quote.  Enjoy!

Editor’s Choice

washington

There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth, and pursue it steadily. Nothing but harmony, honesty, industry and frugality are necessary to make us a great and happy nation.

- George Washington

Using Credit Responsibly

 adams

All the perplexities, confusion, and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation.

- John Adams

Economics

garfield

Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce.

- James Garfield

Self-responsibility and Motivation

kennedy

Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.

- John F. Kennedy

Home Ownership

carter

To deal with individual human needs at the everyday level can be noble sometimes.

- Jimmy Carter

On Character

wilson

If you think about what you ought to do for other people, your character will take care of itself.  Character is a by-product, and any man who devotes himself to its cultivation in his own case will become a selfish prig.

- Woodrow Wilson

The Value of Hard Work

jefferson

I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have

- Thomas Jefferson

Making Informed Decisions

reagan

Information is the oxygen of the modern age.  It seeps through the walls topped barbed wire, it wafts across the electrified borders.

- Ronald Reagan

Income and Investing

tyler

Wealth can only be accumulated by the earnings of industry and the savings of frugality.

- John Tyler

Frugality

 lincoln

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.  You cannot establish security on borrowed money.  You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

- Abraham Lincoln

Taxes

bush1

We believe the American people can spend their money better than the government can spend it.

- George W. Bush

The Future

obama2

Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age.

- Barack Obama

I’m not going to post any links for this one, because no one knows what the future will hold.  Let’s just try to remember that we’re all in this together, and a good economy starts in the home and with individuals.  We’re all going to have to work harder and make sacrifices to pull through this.

Hmmm.... BTW, I think the Shrub said "We believe THE American people can spend their money BETTER than the government can spend it." No need to make the poor guy misspeak even more colorfully than he could do it himself. :-D
