Weekly Blog Roundup, January 11th

Sunday, January 11, 2009 0:01 - By The David

Andrea at Creating Momentum has a post about preparing to leave her job and enter the world of self employment.  Very inspiring.  I’d be too scared to do that, but I’m jealous of her for it.

Free Money Finance is running a March Madness tournament for personal finance bloggers.  It’s a very cool concept.  64 blog posts go head to head, with the winner of each matchup advancing to the next round (just like the NCAA basketball tournament).  The top four posts get a donation made to the charity of their choice.  If the bracket isn’t already full, make sure to sign up.  It’s a good way to get some free publicity and maybe help out a good cause.

Andrea at Seven Figure Psychic warns readers of the Danger of Thinking (Only) Big.  I like the article, but only if you consider that it’s dangerous to think too big or too small.  The trick is finding the balance.  I realize that I’ve been focusing too much on the big picture in some areas of my life, so it was right up my alley.

MoneyNing has a list of 5 Surefire Ways to Stop Thinking Your Paycheck is Never Enough.  The easiest way to get ahead in life is simply to spend less than you earn.  Here are five tips to help you do it.

The Oblivious Investor recently posted his take on the food pyramid, but re-purposed for the finance world.  It’s a great summary of asset allocation.  Are you house rich, and have most of your net worth tied to real estate (even your own house)?  Do you have an adequate emergency fund?  Are you risking your portfolio by investing in the latest hot stocks?

And the fun link is back to just being fun, not finance related.  This week, It’s Copie d’Arte – Famous Paintings Redone with Lego Instead of People.  Great attention to detail.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks links!

  • Hi Andrea,

Thanks for writing a great article :)

I've been following your advice about thinking small too, and it's been working great for my goals. I'm paying off my debt ahead of schedule, and have started emergency and vacation funds (two of my resolutions) ahead of schedule as well.

It really has resonated with me.
  • HI David,

Thanks for mentioning my site! I look forward to checking out the other articles in the blog roundup- great compilation of articles.

Best Wishes in the New Year,
    Andrea Mai
  • My pleasure Andrea. Thanks for checking out my site.

Good luck with your writing and other endeavors. I really like that you're taking clear steps towards your dream of writing for a living. Setting up the other income streams is a good, sustainable way to support that.

    Good luck, and thanks again!
