Weekly Blog Roundup, February 8th

Sunday, February 8, 2009 8:23 - By The David

Well, tax time is here.  I’ve actually been looking forward to it for a long time – I get my money back from Uncle Sam!  I already know what I’m going to spend it on: paying off debt.  My goal is to put every penny of my return towards my credit card debt.

Here are this week’s links:

Andrea at Creating Momentum has an article on the importance of Living on Less Before You Have To.  For those of you not familiar with her site, Andrea is trying to leave the corporate world and make a living as a self-employed writer.  It’s a really interesting transition to watch.

True Adventures in Money Hacking has some advice on Going Out Without Going Broke.  Everybody likes to go out and have fun, and the post has 9 tips on how to save some money while you do it.

JLP at All Financial Matters writes about how Obama has limited executive pay for companies receiving bailout money, and how some people think it will cause a flight of talent away from these companies.  JLP’s response?  The flight of talent argument really cracks him up.

Monevator has a great list of 10 Reasons to be Cheerful as an Investor.  Even in the midst of a recession, there are things to be optimistic about.  My favorite?  #10 – opportunities abound.

And last but not least, Bill Shrink has a list of the Top 5 Ways to Immediately Protect Yourself from Identity Theft.  You can never be too careful.

The fun link this week is about how technology influences our lives.  Not necessarily in the way you think though.  It’s not about a new gadget that will save us time, or some breakthrough in electronics that will improve the quality of our lives.  It’s a lot funnier than both of those.

In what’s believed to be the first use of a Mii in crimefighting, police in Japan used the Nintendo Wii (my favite gaming console) to create a “wanted” poster for the driver in a hit-and-run accident.  Here’s the mugshot they came up with:

  • Hey David,

Thanks so much for adding me to your roundup! I really appreciate the shout-out. Great compilation of articles, by the way.

    Andrea
  • It's my pleasure. I think it's a great idea for everyone to try living on less. It's a lot easier to cut expenses than it is to make more money.

Plus a dollar saved is really more than a dollar earned, because of taxes, so I especially enjoyed your post.

I'm glad you liked this week's roundup.
  • David, thanks for the link to the round up! Appreciate it. Just FYI, we've added you to our blogroll, cheers!
