Weekly Blog Roundup, April 5th

Sunday, April 5, 2009 9:03 - By The David

Ah. I love spring. Nothing better than working in the yard during the day, then grilling out at night with a cold beverage.

In addition to mowing the yard, planting new grass, and planting wildflowers, I’ve been doing some Financial Spring Cleaning as well. It’s a list of what I’ve been up to recently, but what is everyone else doing? Let’s take a look.

Living Almost Large writes about The Importance of Customer Service. This is something I can relate with, as I’ve suffered some poor customer service recently (more on that later this week).

Bargaineering has a Credit Score Q&A with Liz Weston. Liz is a great financial writer, and one of the few that targets the younger audience. You can never take your credit score too seriously, so make sure you check it out.

The Oblivious Investor has a good post warning: Don’t Let Your Ego Get in the Way. Sometimes, the things you think you know are even more deadly than the things you don’t. Make sure you recognize your limits.

The Checkbook Diaries has an article on the importance of Diversifying Your Financial Mind. The best investment you can make is in yourself. Make sure that learning is part of your financial road map.

And last, but not least, Christian PF has an intriguing article about how Money Doesn’t Solve Money Problems. If it did, you wouldn’t hear about professional athletes and lottery winners going broke.

And for the fun link this week…10 Commercials that are Exercises in WTF.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s roundup. And spend some time outside!

  • Thanks for the link David! One of my weaknesses so far with CheckbookDiaries is intermittent blog article roundups. I do a ton of reading, and find great articles (including your site), but fall short in sharing them. Your mention is certainly motivation to knock off the slacking, create a template for blog roundups, and give back some of the referring site love.

Congrats on the interview as well...you're really moving up in the blogosphere!
  • Thanks!

It's fun for me. I like trying to point out articles that many people may have missed. Everyone sees the posts on Get Rich Slowly, but they probably missed articles on sites like mine.

Once you get the template going, it's really pretty easy (plus it's an easy way to put out a fresh article once a week). My advice - work on it throughout the week as you find good articles. I tend to put it off and do it on Saturdays, instead of throughout the week, which would make it easier and allow better links.
  • Thanks for the link, David. :)

I liked that Liz Weston interview as well. Prior to reading it, I'd never paid any attention to my credit rating. (I've never carried a balance on any credit card, so I pretty much just assumed it would be good enough that I'd never have to worry about it.)

After reading it, I figured I should go check it out at least.
  • My pleasure.

I'm starting to become more of a fan of Liz's too. It reminds me I should probably check my credit score too...I checked mine before I bought my house, but that was probably close to 2 years ago.
